Department of Agriculture Extension has started IP approval for onion import. This approval is being given from Monday morning. 210 IP applications were approved on this day. The government has allowed the import of 280 thousand 800 tons of onions on the first day of lifting the import ban.
This information was revealed in a press release of the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday.
The import of onion was allowed due to abnormally high prices in the market. The Ministry of Agriculture took this decision to protect the interests of all consumers including reducing the suffering of people with limited income.
Earlier, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on May 21, "There is no other option but import in the situation that has arisen with the onion market. A letter has been sent from the Ministry of Commerce to the Ministry of Agriculture to import the price of onion at the consumer level in the market.
