A new species of giant snake discovered in the Amazon jungle

Scientists have identified a new species of snake by conducting research in the Amazon jungle. They came across such a snake during the shooting of National Geographic Channel's upcoming series 'Pole to Pole with Will Smith'.

A team of researchers from the University of Queensland found the northern green anaconda (Eunectes acaima) on a trip to the Ecuadorian part of the Amazon jungle. However, this species of snake has not been recorded before. But locally it is rumored to be the largest species of snake in the world.

Scientists from the University of Queensland said that they went there after hearing that a huge species of anaconda was seen in that part of the Amazon jungle. The Waorani community invited them.

University of Queensland biologist Professor Brian Fry is leading the team of scientists. In a statement, he said the scientists accompanied the hunting party during the 10-day expedition to the Bameno area of Baihuri Waorani Territory. Then they saw some anacondas in the shallow water of the river. They were hiding there in search of prey.

Anaconda is a giant snake. They are not poisonous. This snake is found in warm areas of South America or near water.

Fry thinks the shape of the snakes is strange. He said one of the snakes his team of scientists found was a female anaconda 6.3 meters (20.7 feet) long.

The scientists also said they learned that a 7.5 m (24.6 ft) long and 500 kg (1100 lb) anaconda snake had been spotted in the area.

According to the UK's Natural History Museum, the green anaconda is the heaviest snake in the world. Each snake can weigh up to 227 kilograms. They can be up to 8.43 meters (27.7 ft) long and 1.11 meters (3.6 ft) wide.

On the other hand, the reticulated python or reticulated python is tall but light in size. This species of snake can grow over 6.25 meters long.

But experts say the newly discovered northern green anaconda has a lot in common with the southern green anaconda, which existed about a million years ago. The difference between these two species is 5.5 percent.
