Commemoration of Bangladeshis in Sydney

A special memorial meeting and discussion meeting was held in Sydney, Australia in memory of the late Bangladeshis. The event was organized with local Bangladeshis at Sydney's Ashfield Civic Center on February 11. The meeting discussed the people and Bangladeshis who have contributed to Bengali literature during the language month. The meeting titled 'Life and Work' discussed the late journalist and writer Abdul Ghaffar Chowdhury, Ranesh Maitra and veteran Nazrul Islam, one of the earliest Bangladeshis who came to Australia.

At the beginning of the program, tributes were paid to the martyrs of the language movement and the liberation war. Then in the main discussion, Abdul Ghaffar Chowdhury, Ranesh Maitra, Nazrul Islam were discussed respectively by Professor Badrul Alam Khan, fiction writer Shakhawat Nayan and essayist Mohammad Shafiqul Alam and many others. Local Bangladeshis of different ages, family members of deceased Bangladeshis and many others were present in the event. The meeting was organized by Ekushey Academy Australia.
