Rohit Sharma will captain India in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Secretary of the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) Jai Shah told the media at an event in Rajkot yesterday. T20 World Cup will start from June 1 in USA and West Indies.

Rohit will captain India in the T20 World Cup for the second time. Under his leadership, India reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup. In the fight to reach the final, India had to lose to the defending champions England. After the loss on November 10, 2022, Rohit did not play a single match in this edition last year. He captained India in the T20 series against Afghanistan last January. At that time, many people understood that Rohit will be the captain of India in this T20 World Cup. Jai Shah confirmed this.

Regarding Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium's name being changed to Niranjan Shah Stadium, Joy Shah said, 'After almost a year, he (Rohit) returned to captaincy in the Afghanistan series. That means he will definitely lead (in the T20 World Cup).'

Under Rohit's leadership, India lost the ODI World Cup final at home last year. A few days later, Suryakumar Yadav captained India in the T20 series against Australia. He also captained India in the T20I series against South Africa last December. Apart from this, IPL franchise team Mumbai Indians also announced that Hardik Pandya will replace Rohit as their captain. Returning to this edition with the Afghanistan series last January, Rohit scored 121 runs in the third match after getting out for no runs in the first two matches. He is the first cricketer to score 5 centuries in T20 Internationals.
According to Cricinfo, Jay Shah said that Rohit will lead India in the T20 World Cup, with Hardik Pandya the primary choice for the long-term captaincy in this edition. The all-rounder captained India in several T20 series last year. Shah told the media that Rohit was brought back as captain in this edition out of necessity. Because Hardik was injured in the last ODI World Cup, 'Hardik will definitely be the (future) captain in T20s.'
