Legends don't die

Rabindranath Tagore's songs created modern music. And our repertoire of Bangladeshi film songs was enriched by the words of a handful of lyricists and lyricists. One of their lyricists is Gazi Mazharul Anwar. The first reason for saying this name is because I fell in love with Bengali music since I was 18 or 19 years old. As a teenager I used to listen to movie songs and try to find out who wrote or composed the song. It has been seen that the song of the film, which is very popular, has been composed by Gazi Mazharul Anwar.

Since then I have been a fan of this legend. Since then he has been an educational institution of lyric poetry for me. And I am a devoted student of that institution. I am walking in his path by following his path.

go back again There was a Philips brand radio in the house. Dad used to listen to the news on that radio. And we siblings used to listen to movie songs in the afternoon. 'Akash Hande Hai Ekush Neel' sung by Anjuman Ara Begum in the tune of Satya Sahar or 'Ganerei Khatay Swarlipi Khele' sung by Runa Laila in the tune of Subal Das could be heard on the radio. (This song was the first playback of Runa Laila's Bengali film) Both these songs are written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar. What a beautiful poem in the words of the first song, 'The sky has a touch of blue in its hands/ There is some smell in the air/ The night burns on Jonaki's body/ Soft rhythm on Tatini's chest.'

And Sanchari's line in the next song surprised me, 'Who breaks the broken glass with an axe/ By the wayside/ Covers the moon with the fire of happiness.'' Ideal reference. Songwriting techniques, rhythm in lyrics, melody, poetry—everything is there in both songs.

As seen in a film, there are six to five songs. Every song is different. Sometimes very romantic, sometimes charmingly romantic, sometimes boring, sometimes full of comedy. And the kind of songs required for the story, all of them have been brilliantly penned by Gazi Mazharul Anwar and most of the songs written by him are super hits. So far, half of the songs in Bengali films have been written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar.

Let's talk about some very romantic songs. 'Ai Re Megh Ai Re' from 'The Rain' sung by Runa Laila in the tune of Anwar Parvez. Runa Laila sang Satya Saha's 'Amar Man Bole Tumi Asabe' from Anarkali. 'Ai Mon Toke Dim' song sung by Sabina Yasmin in the tune of Anwar Parvez from the film 'Mansi'. Tapan Chowdhury and Shakila Sharma sang 'Glass Heart in a Stone World' from 'Dhaka 86' to the tune of Anwar Parvez.

If I mention the charming romantic song again, I will say, 'Bandhu tin din tor barit gaman khe pailam na pailam' sung by Runa Laila in the tune of Alauddin Ali. Khandkar Farooq Ahmed and Sabina Yasmin sang "Dhaka city is like my hope is fulfilled" to the tune of Satya Sahar. Sabina Yasmin sings 'O amar rasiya bandhu re, tumi ken kamarer bicha holila na' in Satya Sahar's tune from 'Samadhi'.
