Why is the neck suddenly bent?

One morning he woke up to find his neck bent to one side, and when he tried to straighten it, he was in great pain. So it is not possible to straighten the neck or look straight. This condition is called torticollis.

There are two strong muscles on either side of our neck, called 'sternocleidomastoid'. The function of this muscle is to control the movement of the neck. Sometimes the 'sternocleido-mastoid' muscle on either side suddenly becomes tight or 'musul spasm'. The affected person's neck then bends to one side and cannot rotate to the other side.

why
Some newborns may be born with torticollis. This is due to their birth injuries. Often, torticollis in adults is caused by a minor injury or trauma or inflammation. Sometimes you don't remember when you got hurt. Sometimes you can be injured in your sleep. A neurological problem called dystonia can cause torticollis.

What to do if so

● Be calm without panicking first. Bake hot with a heatpad. Massage gently.

● Try to move the neck slowly without turning it to one side all the time.

● Some drugs in the muscle relaxant group can be used to relax or soften the affected muscles.

● Painkillers can be taken to reduce pain.

This problem usually resolves within a day or two. It may take up to a week. If it still does not resolve, a specialist physiotherapy doctor can be consulted.
