EC has decided to give one lakh taka bail for the post of upazila chairman

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to increase the amount of security for the post of chairman in the Upazila Parishad elections from Tk 10,000 to Tk 1 lakh. It has been decided to increase the security for the post of vice chairman from 5 thousand to 75 thousand taka. At the same time, the EC has also decided to cancel the provision of submitting a list with the supporting signature of the voter in the case of being an independent candidate in the Upazila Parishad elections.

These decisions were taken at the meeting of the Election Commission on Tuesday. After the meeting EC Secretary. Jahangir Alam told reporters about these decisions. However, even though the EC has taken decisions, these decisions are not being implemented. These EC decisions will be sent to the Law Ministry for vetting. The Ministry will scrutinize it and send it back to the EC. Notification will be issued after the EC reviews it and sends it back to the Law Ministry.

The EC Secretary said that the EC Law Reform Committee has proposed some updates in the Upazila Parishad Election Rules and Code of Conduct. These approvals were given in today's meeting of the commission.

Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam said, among other approved proposals, candidates can have mass communication with a maximum of 5 people from the time of submission of nomination papers to the time of allotment of symbols. Earlier there was no such provision in the rules.

Now the bail directors have to vote one-eighth of the words given. It is proposed to be 15 percent. Any other candidate gets 15 percent of the votes or his security will be forfeited. Apart from this, the proposal to print color posters on black and white posters has also been supported.

The EC said some sentences and powers were extended in last year's amendment to the mass ban. It is proposed to elect it in the Election Act.
